The New Era University Center for Philippine Studies was established on May 18, 2021. Its establishment is a response to the call for a deeper understanding of Philippine history and culture through interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches in which New Era University holds a relevant role. Primarily, it fulfills the following endeavors:
CPS in collaboration with the NEU School of International Relations (SOIR) facilitates researches in Philippine Studies with universities from different countries who want to engage in a much more promising academic collaboration with NEU.
CPS will also embark on researches on Indigenous Peoples of the Philippines to raise awareness about their history, arts, and contributions to nation-building, thus, promoting its sense of cultural diversity.
CPS will optimize the use of technology in promoting the Philippine’s cultural treasures and its national heritage.
Initial Activities
Among the initial activities of NEU-CPS, in coordination with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), was an international webinar in commemoration on the 160th birth anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal on June, 2021. The said webinar spontaneously commended the contributions of our National Hero as CPS also conducted similar webinar on December, 2021 in commemoration to his 125th death anniversary. With the continued support of NHCP, and in collaboration with Hudyat (NEU official student publication), CPS launched a YouTube program entitled, Kasaysayan at Kulturang Pilipino, which premiered on September, 2021. The monthly program highlights the different aspects of Philippine history and its cultural appreciation. In celebration of its first founding anniversary, CPS launched this website as a platform to elevate intellectual discourses and to raise the academic interests about the programs that CPS offers.
